YELLOWBIRDS at MOVIATE:

PITCHFORK REVIEW: 7.7/10,

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15077-the-color/

facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/253366451404178/

Yellowbirds is the moniker for the latest musical exploits of Sam Cohen—guitarist/songwriter/vocalist in the psychedelic collective Apollo Sunshine. Cohen grew up in Houston, Texas, and while the Texas of his teens may have been home to Big Oil, Enron, the Bush family, and the drab grey Astros jerseys of the 90s, he prefers to think of it as the Texas of yore, home to: Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, the Space Program, and rainbow orange Astros jerseys. It stands to reason, then, that his current home of New York City must be the mythical Empire City: Rocky Mountains of architecture, epicenter of modern art, home to Charles Mingus and The Velvet Underground.

It was with these timeless inspirations in mind that Sam Cohen created Yellowbirds' The Color. Double-speed auto-harp glissandos, glowing backwards pedal steel, bubbling echo and fuzz guitars coalesce into a warm wall of sound. As existential lyrical themes emerge, delivered over psyched-out aural landscapes, the picture emerges of a dust-blown, 4th dimensional Future West. This is Cohen's quixotic world where "only the purist tones can be heard."

Victor Villarreal (Cap'n Jazz, Owls, Joan of Arc, etc.)

Victor Villarreal is perhaps best known as the mastermind guitarist behind Cap'n Jazz - a band which has, in no small way, helped shape the evolution of indie rock. A Chicago native, Victor's high school band has influenced a shit-ton of bands, and channeled fist-pumping energy into just about every angsty emo/punk kid for the last decade. Post-Cap'n Jazz, Victor has played in amazing bands like Owls, Ghosts & Vodka, and most recently, Joan of Arc.

Victor Villarreal is widely considered to be one of the most inventive and cutting-edge guitarists of modern indie rock. His unique guitar style includes elements of classical, spanish, indie and even metal. Victor is in a world all his own. And unless a cantaloupe is involved, he is probably unaware of it. That is to say: Victor's intentions are ingenuous, and his art is pure.

The Epiphysis Foundation is pleased to announce the release of Teenage Mysticism's full-length record Dead Channels on February 14th, 2012.

Dead Channels is 14 tracks of melodic pep and lyrical crispness. With a carefree-come-sassy sound, Dead Channels conjures the simultaneity of youth's woes and delights. Crossed wires delay certainty causing frustration and excitement to entwine. This is adolescence sounded out: possibility wearing strife's gnarly robe.

The album was recorded and produced by Brendon Massei (AKA Viking Moses). Previously, Massei has been responsible for bringing indie acts including Deer Tick, Scout Niblett, Jana Hunter (Lower Dens), and Nat Baldwyn (Dirty Projectors) out of their hometowns and into internaitonal renown. Massei now brings us Teenage Mysticism's Joey DeMarco, a breath-of-fresh-air 19 year old from Fredericksburg, Virginia, where his placid cleverness and pitch-perfect singing has won him enthusiastic fans and hoards of friends.

Timurid is Drew Dyrli Hermeling, a Harrisburg based musician, previously writing and performing in the band OLD TIME BURIALS.

Eleanor Murray (Olympia, WA) & Lindefelt (Fredrik/The LK from Sweden)!!!

eleanorlindefelttextDate:
06.29.2011 8:00pm
Venue/Location:
MIDTOWN SCHOLAR BOOKSTORE

Moviate and Boat People proudly welcome... Lindefelt and Eleanor Murray and Co. back to Harrisburg, PA! This will be an Amazing night of music, sound and imagery...If you have been fortunate enough to see either of these incredible artists on previous visits than you know that this is going to be something magical!

Olympia, WA, warble-songbird Eleanor Murray weaves songs from ferns and yarn. Music that is like looking into a gli...ttery glass terrarium; each track is a miniature world of fog and trees. Her new release, “Oh Thunder” is an album of country-folk dreams to make you swoon for a forest. It pushes the boundaries of “folk,” eager to explore new and majestic territories. Eleanor’s music teeters between the careful crafting of a folk song to full band explosions, with drums, violin, bass, and electric guitar accompanying the ride. “It throws you through loops; one moment you think you have Eleanor Murray figured out, but then she shows you that she’s not an easy catch. You cannot draw a square around her and call it good – she is undefinable.” – Fensepost

Ola Lindefelt (1979) is a sound artist and musician working with resonant sculpture, sonic collage, phase composition and stream of consciousness
audio visualization.
He studied cognitive science (psychology, neuroscience, phonetics, culture theory, philosophy) at Linköping University, Sweden, and has practiced music and sound composition actively for 12 years. Working both in constellations (The LK, Fredrik) and as a solo artist, Lindefelt has produced and released records as well as toured in Sweden, Europe and the US. Also, besides running his own record label, he is involved in production work and has contributed composition, mixing, re-mixing and mastering to a number of artists and musicians.
The last years Lindefelt has focused more on conceptual composition and installation work. In recent work he has been involved in audiovisual collaborations, music for film and visualization of sound.

They have a way of taking you straight out of Brooklyn and bringing you right to Appalachia. Seeing Spirit Family Reunion live is like going on a sweet mini vacation to place where life is simple and sweet.

Here's what folks are sayin'...

Rabble-rousing Brooklyn folkies Spirit Family Reunion deliver foot-stomping, throaty, joyful songs. We defy you not to tap along. -Time Out New York

A young, brilliant roots band steeped in the best of Americana... heartbreaking and beautiful. -NBC

The songs exude a sense of fun and urgency that feels free of irony. Raw and raspy Appalachian folk-inspired vocals lead ofthe verses, and the whole band joins in for anthemic choruses that scream out for listener participation. -The Deli- New York

The most authentic slice of America I’ve had in forever. -Right Hear Media

Spirit Family Reunion is one of those bands who make you feel like you're part of something bigger when you see them play[...} their music really captures that raw feeling of being alive. -Brooklyn Ski Club
